Can I use my existing domain name?
I already own a domain can I use it with The Artists Web?

You can use the domain name you have already registered/own for
your Artists Web website. There are two ways of doing this and to 
make the transfer it usually involves contacting or sending
your registrar an email or submitting the request yourself. 

1) Transfer Control
===================

You transfer control of the domain to us - we will then take
responsibility for renewal and payment each year. 

For a .uk domain:
--------------
As we include the price of a .uk domain in membership, there's no
charge extra.

For a .com domain
---------------
We will charge an additional 10GBP each year to cover the
registration fee.

To make the transfer:

1) Contact your registrar (if you don't know who this is see below)

2) Send them an email (or call them) as below

for a .uk domain:
"I wish to transfer my domain to another registrar. Please change
the IPS tag for my domain to FASTHOSTS and tell me when this has
been done" 

for a .com domain:
"I wish to transfer my domain to another registrar. Please unlock
my domain for 
transfer and give me the authorisation code I need to provide to
the new registrar."

3) IMPORTANT: Please notify us once this has been done - we won't
be able to complete the transfer till you do.

4) You may also receive some emails as part of the transfer
process, please forward 
them to us.


2) Keep Control
===============

You keep control of the domain and set the nameservers to point
at our servers - here you will remain responsible for the renewal
and payment each year.

To make the transfer:

1) Contact your registrar (if you don't know who this is see below)

2) Send them an email (or call them) as below

"I wish to host my website with a new web host. Please change the
nameservers for 
my domain to:
Primary: ns1.theartistsweb.net
Secondary: ns2.theartistsweb.net

3) IMPORTANT: Please notify us once this has been done - we won't
be able to complete the process till you do.

Important Note Regarding Email
====================

We provide an email forwarding service, so that email sent to
your domain can be forwarded onto your email address. This will
work well for most users, but this will affect users who have an
exisiting email service on their domain name i.e. a dedicated
pop3 or imap account not just forwarding to a separate email
account (like hotmail, btinternet or gmail etc).

3) (New Email Option) - Keeping control over your domain, domain
nameservers and domain email settings.
=================

You can also point just the website for your domain at our server
and leave the rest of your domain settings untouched. This is
useful if you have some mail account already set up that you do
not wish to change.

Please contact your domain registrar and tell them:

"I would like to host my website with a new host provider. In
order to do this I wish to create a CNAME record for my domain as
follows:
www. pointing to web-builder.artweb.com"

You may be able to do this from your registrar's control panel.

However in order to ensure there are no problems, we recommend
you contact your registrar and ask them the correct proceedure.

Please note the email forwarding options on your website control
panel (Settings -> Email Settings -> Artists Web Email Addres)
will still be available, but will have no effect as your existing
registrar will control mail setttings for your domain.
