Call for performers and workshop leaders at Ladyfest Leeds 2007
Ladyfest Leeds is a festival celebrating creativity, diversity and promoting gender equality, particularly promoting female artists across a multitude of artistic fields, and which will take place from Tuesday 10th to Sunday 15th April 2007.
Ladyfest Leeds is currently booking performances and performance-based workshops for the festival: primarily non-music-based performances and workshop leaders, including but not restricted to dance, theatre, comedy, burlesque, spoken word and performance art.
We are particularly interested in Yorkshire-based practitioners; new work is preferred over older/regularly toured work. Ideally performances will be relatively short with minimal technical requirements, due to the desire to include as many performances as possible as well as limitations imposed by time and venue space. Performers and workshop leaders must be sympathetic to the aims of Ladyfest Leeds to be considered.
Festival events will mainly take place primarily in two city centre host venues:
* The Carriageworks Theatre ( http://www.carriageworkstheatre.co.uk ) - For six days of dance, performance, comedy, music, films and spoken word events as well as three days of workshops; from fun and practical for kids and adults, to more serious talks and discussions about empowerment, gender and equality.
* Josephs Well - For music and gigs, and practical music workshops.
As well as this, there will be a host of other activities, including art exhibitions and workshops, taking place in other venues both during and prior to the main festival. This is the first Ladyfest to be held by people living in Leeds, and builds on the heritage of over 100 Ladyfests that have been held around the world since 2000, which have all encouraged female artists and performers. In Leeds, we have taken the opportunity to extend this remit to give all genders and sexualities the chance to get involved and help in the organisation. Ladyfest Leeds has a DIY ethos: all the organisers are volunteers and any profits made will all go to charity.
Potential performers and participants should email mailto:ladyfestleedsarts@googlemail.com with a brief outline of their proposed performance and/or workshop, including estimated costs, running time and technical requirements. We would also like to know why you would like to take part in Ladyfest Leeds. Bands and musical performers should contact the music team for more info and an application form by emailing mailto:ladyfestleedsmusic@googlemail.com
