You are invited to start’s next party: a chance to network with the creative community in Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas. The party is a real opportunity to develop new contacts and be part of a vibrant, inspiring, creative community.
start is the free business support service for the creative industries in Milton Keynes. We exist to help creative individuals, practitioners and small businesses to develop as sustainable, viable enterprises.
Artworks-mk will host the party at their beautiful, historic Great Linford site. We will be in the Barn Gallery, which is to the right of the courtyard as you come into the site via Parklands. Whilst at the Party be sure to have a browse through the ‘Objects of Desire’ exhibition in the Barn Gallery - lots of beautiful handmade arts and crafts that make ideal Christmas presents or personal indulgences.
6pm - Arrive and warm up with mulled wine, toffee apples, candies & ginger tea!! 6.40pm - Welcome note from Sien Prime, start. Sien will introduce the ’start Guide to Business Planning’ - a toolkit that will guide you through planning, starting and running your creative venture.
7pm - Nicky Prince, acoustic set: Nicky Prince may be familiar to some from her Garage days working with producer Z-Bias (A.K.A. ‘Maddslinky’) on various projects such as the big garage anthem, Neighbourhood that entered the charts in 2000. Nicky recently supported UK Jazz Pioneer, Courtney Pine, at the legendary Stables Theatre in Milton Keynes and won the Citizen Newspaper’s Go! Award for ‘Best Album 2005′ as voted by the readers. 7.40pm - Memphis Cease Fire: a new act for Milton Keynes, born out of acoustic act R.P.M. They are an acoustic/vocal quartet made up of the four lead vocalists from ‘dance club’ acts Environmental Science, Euphorian Sound, Zed Bias and Jonathan E and have all seen vinyl action via highly credible record labels such as XL, Skint, Capital Heaven, Fused and Bruised, Echo Drop, Slamm, Partisan, Freak Plastique and Ugly Records.
8.10pm - 9.30pm - Speed Surgeries: these are an opportunity to bring your question or business problem to a start advisor. These are limited to 5mins each and should you need to pick our brains for longer, we can book you into a full hour-long surgery session over the coming weeks. Showcase: Fancy getting some exposure for your work? Have you an image that encompasses what you do? Your work will be featured in an electronic exhibition to be shown on the night.
