Speakers’ Corner…come on down!
Speakers’ Corner, York - Wednesday 8 November This regular event offers the opportunity for new voices to have a place to be heard. Speakers’ Corner takes place at 7.30 pm on the second Wednesday of every month, at The Yorkshire Terrier Pub on Stonegate, York. We’ve had some great acts this year, come down and be one too!
This month’s special feature is Miles Cain. Miles is a singer, songwriter, poet and freelance journalist based in York. His poems have appeared in Aesthetica and Dreamcatcher, and his articles in papers including The Sunday Times, Daily Telegraph and Northern Echo. He will be performing a mixture of songs, poems and a new short story. Oz Hardwick will also appear with Miles on a collaborative piece of music and poetry. http://www.aesthetica-online.com

We chatted with Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze about her new book. We spoke with photographer Tony Briggs about his controversial comic photography. We spoke with aboriginal artist Fiona Foley about our (mis)conceptions of race and racial hatred. We have included a large full colour article on urban art where we looked at graffiti by Shepard Fairey, FAILE and Banksy. We looked at how alternative theatre companies successfully takes performances into public spaces. We had a peak into African Cinema. We caught up with Juliette Lewis to talk about her switch from Hollywood Superstar to Rock Chick, and we had a chat with the pop darlings The Pipettes about the beauty of being manufactured. We spoke to Lambchop about their new album, and David Kitt about folktronica, and Hanne Hukkelberg about music in Norway!
