Confetti - Dancing with the Rainbow
1.30pm, Thursday 16 November 2006 at Bedworth Civic Hall
For nine weeks members of the Rainbow Sunshine Company have been working with Wolfgang Stange and Colm Gallagher of AMICI Dance Theatre towards creating a dance performance, and as a result will present Confetti - Dancing with the Rainbow at Bedworth Civic Hall on Thursday 16 November 2006 at 1.30pm.
The Rainbow Sunshine Company has been established for 9 years and is based in Bedworth, Warwickshire. The company provides drama and other performing arts opportunities for adults with learning and physical disabilities. The company meet once a week at Bedworth Arts Centre and is led by Arlene Brindley, with support from volunteers and carers. The group has a membership of around 40 (including volunteers/carers) and has undertaken a number of projects including mime, music and improvisation. The opportunity to work with AMICI Dance Theatre has given many of the Rainbow Sunshine Company members their first experience of taking part in a dance performance.
Under the leadership of Wolfgang Stange, AMICI Dance Theatre has developed a unique style of working to bring together able bodied and disabled artists and performers. The Company challenges conventional attitudes about disability and the arts and run regular classes at the Lyric in London, along with workshops, performances and events nationally and internationally.
This project has also provided two local dance artists with the opportunity to work with the Rainbow Sunshine Company and be mentored by AMICI throughout the process of working with the group to create the performance. It is hoped these artists will be able to use the skills gained from their experience in their own practice and develop future, similar projects around the sub region and further afield.
