Where is Home? Friday 17 November 8pm ?10/?6
Happy birthday! Now, go home.
Home was somewhere you left when you were 14. Home was the back of a lorry for 14 days. Home is now here in the UK. Today you’re 18 and a letter from the Home Office tells you to go back … home? A ‘home’ that you may not even remember … Or a ‘home’ that doesn’t remember you…
Where is Home? explores the human dimension behind one of the most controversial political issues of our time, at a time when asylum is a headline in every tabloid newspaper you read … Featuring African / Caribbean dance, music, live drumming, spoken word and drama, Where Is Home? shares the real stories of a new generation of young refugees and asylum seekers, connecting us all to our understanding of ‘home’ and the universal need to belong.
Formed in 2003, Afrocats is a performing arts group comprised of young African women refugees from Manchester. They include young women from Rwanda, Burundi, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Uganda and young women from Manchester’s Caribbean communities.
Choreographed and Produced: Magdalen Bartlett. Direction: Cilla Baynes. Music Direction Pa Pa Sam Maitland
