Theatralia present Misterioso A journey into the silence of Thelonious Monk
Written by Stefano Benni Adapted and directed by Filomena Campus
Camden People?s Theatre Thursday 9th- Sunday 12 November 2006 / 8pm
Theatralia explores the magic of a jazz concert fused with the beautiful words of Italian writer Stefano Benni, the interactive projections of SDNA, the postmodern Misterioso Buffo by Frank Millward, the magnetic talent of Chiara De Palo, and the mysterious notes of Pat Thomas (piano), Rowland Sutherland (flute), Dudley Phillips (double bass) and Filomena Campus (vocals)
Special guests: Cleveland Watkiss- vocals (9/10November) and Orphy Robinson - vibes (11/12November) “I?m not going to tell you any names senator McCarthy Go into any library or any jazz club, there you?ll find your enemies Am I afraid of you, senator McCarthy? We are not all heroes, sometimes we are afraid. But you are much more afraid, senator, or should I call you president? With your preaching tone and your well rehearsed smiles And the rivers of blood that flow at your feet, under your desk. You can?t sleep at night as you walk through your house with your gun loaded. While we, senator, stay awake at night to listen to the golden fire of a saxophone Senator sergeant patriot spy executioner president! Listen to the story of a black piano player, grieved and gentle Listen to the sounds of his last silence’
Each night a unique experience of JazzTheatre and improvisation with some of the main exponents of UK and European jazz scene.
Total audience interaction can totally backfire, so Theatralia takes many risks with this thought-provoking, original piece. It is very moving and effective. (The Stage)
