Hetain Patel - Future Factory - Nottingham

Copy/Paste is a collaborative performance and exhibition by Hetain Patel and Aazmeen Singh Kharbanda. Having explored self-imposed rituals involving marking his own body with henna paste, Patel has enlisted traditionally trained henna artist Kharbanda to take part in a live performance which will have both artists negotiate the same (Patel’s) body simultaneously with this pigment. Traditionally a very passive activity, here with added creative input of the person being decorated, the henna application becomes more awkward. For Patel, having to copy Kharbanda’s designs will impede any natural flow, and for Kharbanda, an activity that is as natural as basic hand-eye co-ordination will become much more of a physical challenge.
