The Independent Photographers Gallery Battle with sponsorship from WAW Leisure (The Place Camber Sands Hotel and Restaurant Group)  and Rother District Council have created a new photography competition,
The Terry O’Neill Award.

With a first prize of £3000 it is aimed at students, amateurs and professionals over 18 and based in the UK.
This is an open competition based around a still photographic image. Documentary, landscape, portraiture, reportage,digital, film, montage, landscape, portraiture, fine art, still life, stills or film can all be entered.

Terry O’Neill says. ” photography in the UK is going through a hugely innovative and exciting period, with imagery stretching all our imaginations. We don’t have a UK competition that reflects that. This award is aimed to provide that visibility for our great new photographers”

Lucy Bell, founder of Gallery IPG Battle concurs, ” the art world has its contemporary competitions, film: a host of film festivals, yet the stills world has so little; at the IPG we aim to fill that gap”

The judging panel chaired by TERRY O’NEILL includes Terry O’Neill, HotShoe editor Melissa Dewitt, Editor of Black and White Photography Ailsa McWhinnie , photographer Sophy Rickett, Celia Davies Head of Exhibitions at the De La Warr Pavilion, photographic printer Robin Bell and sponsor Matthew Wolfman founder of The Place Camber Sands The Award closes on 20th July.

1st prize £3,000 2nd Prize £1,000 3rd prize £500. The winner will also be featured in Hotshoe Magazine.

The short listed winners will be exhibited at IPG’s gallery in Battle  and be toured to all the sponsor’s hotels – The Place Camber Sands, The Bell Hotel Sandwich, The Ship Hotel Chichester. The competition has its own page on the gallerys website, and all  entrants will be included here see “submissions” on www.ipgbattle.com. The judges are looking for a series a minimum of 3-6 images from each entrant and the entry fee is just £3 per image (information and downloadable entry forms can be found on (www.ipgbattle.com/oneillaward)
